The Senior Cost Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the integrated portfolio costs are maintained in compliance with all EDF Energy Company standards and processes to support the Nuclear Decommissioning portfolio and provide a level of independence for cost management with the aim of achieving best-practice to drive performance and value for the business., At EDF, everyone's welcome. What you'll be doing

Your roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Portfolio oversight to ensure consistency, coherence, and adherence to cost management standards across the portfolio. Ensure full compliance with the Nuclear Decommissioning process requirements.

  • Oversee the production and control of key cost information for all work within the portfolio utilising approved work breakdown structures and techniques. Support the estimating process to ensure a control estimate is in place for cost monitoring purposes for this work.

  • Ensure appropriate levels of cost monitoring and control techniques are applied to the portfolio appropriate to the scale and scope of the work to enable the work to be managed effectively and efficiently. Oversee Portfolio/Programme change control and risk management processes.

  • Supporting the production of key outputs, to an agreed reporting cycle, through the provision of intelligent information and analysis of trends.

  • Proactively contribute to the ongoing development of processes and tools to meet the ongoing requirements of the Nuclear Decommissioning portfolio. Continually develop the portfolio outputs for Cost Function to enhance the value delivered to Client. Highlight shortfalls in Portfolio/Programme Controls and put in place action plans to remedy areas requiring attention.

  • When nominated by the Line Manager, takes the Lead role in overseeing the wider Cost Function within Nuclear Decommissioning in terms of development, technical input and governance.

    Do you have a high level of technical aptitude with experience working in Project Management? Are you proficient in the use of estimating and cost control tools? If so, this could be the role for you!, You will have a high level of technical aptitude with an understanding of Project Management, Engineering, Regulatory, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning activities and their relation to project costs.


  • You will possess a high level of numeracy and analytical skills and apply those using a range of appropriate IT tools.

    A working knowledge of SAP and of the Primavera applications is essential.

    You will have strong verbal, written and presentational skills.

    You will be proficient in the use of estimating, scheduling, programming, cost control and risk tools, and the application of Earned Value concepts and tools.

    MACostE would be advantageous, as would Project Controls qualifications such as an NVQ or ECITB equivalents.

    A working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety legislation is desirable.

    You will have relevant experience within a Multi Discipline, Engineering Project Management or Project Control environment with proven leadership experience.

    An understanding of engineering design management and the application of Design Authority, ideally within a highly regulated or nuclear safety environment would also be desirable.

    We can offer a competitive salary from £54,391 - £75,080 and you'll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

    We promote work/life balance through a flexible hybrid work arrangement, spanning 37 hours per week. We're open to appoint throughout the UK along with flexibility of attending other sites/stations such as Gloucester Business Park, Atlantic Quay and other stations on a business need basis.
