About The College:
North Highland serves the communities of the northern mainland of Scotland. It is an academic
partner of the UHI Millennium Institute (UHI).
The College has 4 campuses, at Thurso, Wick, Alness and Dornoch.
Many courses reflect the needs of the area – equestrian studies, gamekeeping, golf
management, veterinary nursing, environment and heritage, and engineering decommissioning.
Courses are taught through sections
- Community and Health Studies
- Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy
- Languages and Communication
- Music (modern or traditional)
Courses run at all levels up to degrees. Degree courses include
- Environment and Heritage Studies
- Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering
A new Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Acting and Performance (Touring Theatre) will eventually
become a degree.
Applying to North Highland College
Because this College is a UHI partner, you apply through UCAS for courses at HNC and above.
Support for learning
The Curriculum Support Unit provides support in study skills.
The Unit also offers specialised help to students with disabilities or special learning needs such
as physical, visual or hearing impairments or dyslexia.
The Core Skills Unit can help with communication and number work.
Child care
The College does not have a nursery, but may be able to help fund registered child care
elsewhere.
Mature entrants
The College welcomes mature students. You may not need the normal entry requirements.
Part time study
There are part time day and evening courses, and e-learning in a growing range of subjects.
Community courses
Flexible learning is available at centres throughout the north Highlands. There are also short
courses, including Music Workshops, Computing, Equestrian Skills and a range of Hospitality, Catering and
Food Hygiene courses.
