About The College:
Lews Castle College was founded in 1953. It is an academic partner of the UHI Millennium Institute (UHI).
The College campus in Stornoway was completely redeveloped in 2000 and a new centre was opened on Barra in 2002. There are also learning centres on Benbecula and at Lochboisdale, Lochmaddy, Ness, Northton (South Harris) and Uig.
The College has particular strengths in on-line learning, Gaelic, computing, rural health and rural development.
Courses range from introductory to degrees. There are 2 Faculties
Humanities, including Gaelic, Communication, Arts and Languages; Business Administration and Rural Development Studies; Health, Care and Learning Support; Hospitality and Catering
Technology, including Computing, IT and Secretarial Studies; Construction, Crafts and Indigenous Industries; Engineering and Electronics

Because this College is a UHI partner, you apply through UCAS for courses at Higher National Certificate and above.
Support for learning
The College publishes a Student Study Guide. This gives guidance on skills including essay and report writing, making presentations and time management.
There is extra learning support for students with disabilities or learning difficulties. You should contact the College to discuss your needs.
Child care
The College nursery in Stornoway cares for children aged 3 to 5.5 and provides after-school and holiday care for children aged 5.5 to 12.
Mature entrants
Mature students are welcome. You may not need the normal entry requirements.
Access courses
The College runs the following access courses
Access to Arts and Social Sciences, leading to degree study
Access to Degree Studies leading to degree study in Business Administration, Rural Development, Rural Health or Gaelic Studies
Part time study
There are part time day and evening courses in the main College and in other centres, as well as open and flexible learning courses.
