About The College:
Forth Valley College was launched after merging the considerable strengths of Clackmannan College of Further Education and Falkirk College of Further and Higher Education.
By joining forces, we have created the fifth largest College in Scotland with around 25,000 students and over 700 staff. Our courses range from National Qualifications through to Degree programmes in:
The new College is building on the excellent reputations of both predecessor colleges – delivering an even broader range of courses and learning opportunities at our main campuses in Alloa (Clackmannan), Falkirk and Stirling.
Forth Valley College provides all-round, flexible education and training opportunities that have been specifically designed to help individuals discover their potential at a time and pace suitable to their lifestyle and commitments. Our courses are carefully selected to provide students with the skills and qualifications appropriate for the demands of today's and tomorrow's industry and businesses.
Our excellence in teaching and learning is strongly backed up by our expert guidance and support services, state-of-the-art leisure facilities and the very latest in learning resources and assistive technology equipment – ensuring that learning is accessible to all.
Student support
Forth Valley College has dedicated members of staff on hand to provide guidance and support to students.
These include:
- Student Welfare Facilitators
- Student Mentoring Schemes
- International Student Support Team
Support for students with disabilities
The College aims to assist and support all students including those who have a disability or health issue that might affect their learning.
Learning resources
The College’s learning resource centres provide students with access to modern, well-equipped facilities at our three main campuses. Students are entitled to utilise any of our resources centres.
The centres' role is to help students progress through their studies to achieve their academic and vocational goals. The three centres have up-to-date book collections, advance ICT facilities and access to a wide range of electronic resources relevant to all subject areas. Materials held at each campus have been specifically selected to support our diverse and varied curriculum.
Child care
The College works in partnership with local nurseries and creche providers and many students may be eligible for financial help with childcare costs.
Access courses
There are Access courses for higher education in Computing, Creative Arts, Engineering, Sciences and Nursing. Students progress to an HNC, HND or degree at the college or via University.
Equality for all
Forth Valley College is committed to the provision of equal opportunities in all aspects of College life.
The College welcomes applications from all backgrounds regardless of religion, ethnic origin, culture, age, gender, sexual orientation or disability. All applications are considered on an individual basis.
Part-time
Forth Valley College also has a variety of leisure based and certificated courses that are delivered on a part-time day or evening basis. These courses are uniquely designed to fit around a student’s busy lifestyle and some are often delivered via family friendly hours to fit around school times – making learning easily accessible to those who have family commitments.
Community learning
The Community Access Programme (CAP) brings learning to the community throughout the Forth Valley Region. The College works in partnership with Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling Councils delivering learning opportunities from over 30 Community Outreach Centres across the Forth Valley region.
Distance learning
This is a popular way to study if you are in full-time employment. Students can work at their own pace to fit in with their lifestyle. Support is on hand from programme tutors and many programmes have classroom-based tutorials in college every 6 weeks, offering both, tutor and peer support. It is still important to set targets and tutors give regular constructive feedback on submitted work.
Flexible Learning
Based in the Learning Zone Clackmannan and the Learning Resource Centre at both Falkirk and Stirling Campuses, the centres provide a range of learning packages, individual workstations and study spaces, including access to the Internet, software applications and photocopying facilities. The centres aim to provide an environment where learners can feel relaxed and comfortable with experienced and friendly staff available to provide help and advice. |
