About The University:
The University of Edinburgh was founded in 1583, the last of the 4 ancient Scottish universities. It is world renowned and highly respected.

The buildings are in 6 main clusters – Central and George Square, New College (Divinity), Holyrood (Education), King’s Buildings (Science and Engineering), Little France (where the Medical School has facilities in the New Royal Infirmary) and Easter Bush (where the School of Veterinary Studies is based)

You can study a range of languages through the Institute of Applied Language Studies.

Some programmes offer the opportunity to spend part of your undergraduate course abroad through
      • the European schemes, Erasmus and Socrates

      • exchanges with universities in North and South America, Asia or Australasia
Support for learning
Every student is assigned a Director of Studies (DoS), who is a member of academic staff, normally based in the subject area in which you will be studying. The DoS is a first point of contact for advice on a range of issues such as choice of outside subjects.

Students with Disabilities
We welcome students with a disability and encourage you to contact our Disability Office at an early stage in the application process to discuss your individual needs. The Disability Office can offer advice on a wide range of issues ranging from study support, to queries on the Disabled Students'Allowance scheme.

Child care
The University Day Nursery takes children from 6 weeks to 5 years and the Uni-tots Nursery takes children aged 2.5 to 5.

Mature entrants
We consider alternative qualifications and experience from mature applicants, but recent academic work is normally required:
      • SQA Highers

      • a Higher National Certificate or Diploma

      • an Open University courses

      • an access course – see below

Access courses
      • the University recognises Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP) courses

      • the University Office of Lifelong Learning runs an ‘Open Studies Credit for Entry Certificate’, which can lead to degree study
Part time study
A few degrees can be taken part time during the day
      • BA Humanities and Social Science

      • BA Childhood Studies

      • BD Divinity

      • BA and MA Religious Studies

      • BA Community Education
Entry requirements are as for full time students.

Open Days
We offer three Open Days, normally one in June and two in the Autumn. All are welcome to attend our Open Days where you can find out more about individual subject areas, choosing and applying, student life and student finance.
Post Application Visit Days
Post application visits are by invitation only and are for applicants who are holding an offer of admission with us. These are usually held between January and April.
Student-led Guided Tours
We operate student guided tours most Friday afternoons.
