Child care
The Nursery has 40 places for children of students and staff, from 2-5 years.
Access courses – for adults and school pupils
Wider Access Study Centre (WASC) courses are widely recognised as models of good practice
- The Access Summer School course is free and runs 5 days a week for 10 weeks – it is for anyone who has done some academic study within 3-5 years but most applicants are from school or have recently left.
- The Introduction to Arts and Social Sciences course is for adults – it is part time and can give entry to a full time MA course as well as giving you some credits towards an MA degree.
- The ASPIRE course is for pupils who have not quite achieved the required grades – you attend by invitation, it is free and runs for 2 weeks in September.
Mature entrants
- the University offers places on merit
- if you have taken a recognised access course at a further education college, you are welcome to apply.
Advanced entry
- if you have a Higher National Certificate or Higher National Diploma, you may be admitted to year 2 or 3
- you may also gain some credit for learning through experience
Part time and flexible learning
You can take a degree in arts and social sciences, part time, by flexible learning.
The University runs a limited range of distance learning courses.
Finance
The university offers a number of pre- and post-entry bursaries and scholarships awarded on academic merit and hardship funds distributed on the basis of financial circumstances.See online University Prospectus for details.
Student Facilities and Support
The University supports students with special needs
- Disability Support Officers arrange academic and practical support
- the ACCESS centre provides impartial assessment of the needs of disabled students
- the visually impaired study centre and the dyslexia centre, both have specialised equipment
The University is currently spending £200 million to improve facilities on a campus already described by the Virgin Alternative Guide to UK Universities as 'the friendliest campus in Scotland'.This investment will create new residences with en-suite facilities , new teaching accommodation, a further extension to both the main Library and the Sports Centre.A £4 million refurbishment of the Students Union was completed only last year.
Specialist Areas/Expertise
E-learning is the future of higher education and Dundee is leading the way. It has developed a virtual campus so students can work online at a time and place to suit their lifestyle and have all the information they need at their fingertips.Students and their tutors are able to interract online using MyDundee, the student learning portal which includes online assessment systems.The Learning Enhancement Unit provides several avenues of support to students to supplement that available from lecturers and tutors.
