About The College:
Borders College was formed in 1984, by combining earlier agricultural and technical colleges. It has links with local industry and runs courses to fit the local employment market.

The College has 6 sites, in Galashiels, Hawick, Duns, Newton St Boswells, Peebles and Edinburgh.

      • Technology
Courses lead to qualifications including Highers, National Certificates, Scottish Vocational Qualifications, Higher National Certificates (HNC) and Higher National Diplomas (HND). Some HN courses give entry to degree courses at Napier or Heriot-Watt Universities.

The 9,500 full and part time students are taught to a high standard.

Support for learning
Student Support staff advise on difficulties with study or learning.
The Student Support Adviser arranges additional support for students with a disability or learning difficulty, including dyslexia.

Child care
The College does not have a nursery, but may be able to help fund registered child care elsewhere.

Mature entrants
Mature entrants are welcome. With prior knowledge and experience you may be accepted without the normal entry requirements.

Access courses
The College runs an Access course for higher education in Nursing in collaboration with Napier University.

Part time study
You can take most courses part time, day or evening.
The College runs introductory open learning courses, as well as more advanced courses for National and Higher National units.

Did you know?
      • in recent years there has been a 25% increase in the number of women taking gamekeeping courses at Borders College

      • the Scottish Knitwear Design and Technical Centre in Hawick was opened in 2004 – this grew from the Borders College Knitwear Design and Technical Centre, which provided valuable services to local companies

      • in 2004, a social care student from Borders College won the Future Workers Award at the first awards ceremony for social services

      • the College has plans to relocate on the Netherdale campus, refurbishing some buildings and replacing others.
