About The University:
Bell College, founded in 1972, is a leading centre of education in Lanarkshire and a member of Universities Scotland. The College is a Higher Education Institution, designated in February 2000.

Bell offers a range of higher education courses and levels of study:

    • Higher National Certificate (HNC)/Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE)
    • Higher National Diploma (HND)/Diploma in Higher Education (DipHE)
    • Degree and Honours Degree
    • Postgraduate
    • Professional Qualifications

Some of these awards are in conjunction with the Universities of Strathclyde, Paisley and the Open University.

The College has:

    • 2 campuses - the main campus in Hamilton and another in Dumfries
    • 4,230 students, 2,700 of whom are full time
    • over 250 academic staff
    • 4 Academic Schools

The Hamilton Campus offers courses in:

    • Business
    • Health Studies
    • Science and Engineering
    • Social Studies

The Dumfries Campus offers courses in:

    • Nursing

You might be able to spend part of your course abroad, through the European Erasmus scheme.

Support for Learning
Students can use a variety of on-line learning programmes in the Open Learning Centre, to support class learning. The "Effective Learning" service offers individual help, if required, with study skills, essays, reports, numeracy, exam preparation and so on. The Disability Adviser arranges academic and practical support for those with special needs.

Child Care
There is a nursery on the Hamilton campus, for babies (0-2), toddlers (2-3) and pre-school children (3-5). In addition, a Before and After School Club is available for children aged between 5-12 as is a School Holiday Club.

Access for Mature Entrants

    • Mature applicants (over the age of 21) are considered for entry on merit, taking into account previous studies and prior experience.
    • Applicants successfully completing an Access course can apply for entry to a higher education course at the College.

Advanced Entry
Applicants with an HNC or HND in a relevant discipline may be able to enter a Degree course at year 2 or 3.

Part time and Flexible Learning
The College offers a range of part time HNC/CertHE, HND/DipHE, Degree, Postgraduate and Professional programmes, both during the day and in the evening. In addition a range of short courses and professional continuing development Health and Social Care courses are available.

    • tour the college and facilities

    • offer over 20 Degrees
    • established the Scottish Polymer Development Centre, nearly 7 years ago, to promote the injection moulding process - it has successfully developed a number of products including baby bedding to reduce the risk of cot death and a firemans safety device.
    • is working on the Malawi Millennium Project, jointly with Strathclyde University and the University of Malawi, to train trainers for future generations of Malawi teachers, nurses, scientists, technicians and engineers.
