About The College:
This is the largest further education college in Scotland, with courses to suit everyone – full or part time, distance learning or community based.
Aberdeen College has 5 centres: Gallowgate, Gordon, Altens and Minto, all in Aberdeen, and Clinterty, about 9 miles north.
It runs a wide range of courses, for qualifications including Highers, National Certificates, Scottish Vocational Qualifications, Higher National Certificates and Higher National Diplomas.
Courses are taught as follows
- Gallowgate – accounting, art and design, beauty therapy, business, childcare, communication and media, computing, construction, hairdressing, hospitality, human resources, languages, law, marketing, social sciences and care, sound engineering, travel and tourism
- Altens and Minto – engineering and motor vehicle
- Gordon – music and performing arts
- Clinterty – animal care and horse management, floristry and horticulture, outdoor pursuits, service engineering
Of the 24,000 students, of all ages
- 82% are from Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire
- 78% of full time students go on to further study
Support for learning
The Student Development Centre helps students with study skills, essay writing, exam techniques and coursework.
The ACCESS Centre supports students with specific learning difficulties, sensory impairment, physical disabilities or health problems.
Child care
The College does not have creche facilities, but may be able to help fund registered child care elsewhere.
Mature entrants
The College welcomes mature entrants. You may not need the normal entry requirements.
Access courses
The College runs Access courses leading to higher education in in Music, Nursing and Science.
Part time study
Part time courses are run in College and in local community centres. There are also flexible open learning courses (using packs of material with tutor support) and e-learning courses (using interactive computer materials).
